If you are reading the news, for sure you came across the broadcast that primary school students in Malaysia have had involvements in gambling. In a survey conducted by GRCM (Gamblers Rehab Centre Malaysia), 93% of 600 primary pupils have had involvements in gambling especially during CNY (Chinese New Year) and other family gatherings.

In addition, 89% of 5000 secondary school students have had involvements in gambling. Most of the students started to gamble together with family members. When they are outside, they gamble together with friends and online. This simply shows that gambling is prevalent not only for adults. If you do not want your kid to be a gambler, you should consider some of these things to help your kids avoid gambling:

Keep communication lines open

If you know that your kids are gambling, the first thing that you should do is investigate. Talk to your kids about its risks. You have a chance of changing their mind if you mention some of the risks of gambling. If they deny the accusations of gambling, try to investigate them. You can ask fellow students or teachers. If it means you snooping around, do it. It is better that way before it destroys the lives of your kids.

Be a good role model

How can you affect change if you are personally involved in gambling? If you are a gambler, you know the dire results of the addiction and you can use it to your advantage. You can tell your kids about it so it will serve as their lesson. Do not openly talk about gambling and how it excites you. Your kids will think that it is okay and they will do it because you also do it. One effective way to change them is to live by example. You should always keep in mind that your kids are always watching.

Seek professional help

If you are aware that your kids have severe gambling problems, you should look for professionals to help them. Professionals know what to do and how to proceed. Trust them and your kids will be in good hands. Do not wait for the addiction to take over their lives. Your kids can also join support groups if they want a group that really understands their crosses and burdens.

You should affect change as soon as possible. Do not let gambling take over the life of your kids or destroy it. Your role is great so do not underestimate it and do not ignore it.
